Vancouver, Canada (October 24, 2006)
– Canada’s Sean McIntosh heads into this weekend’s World Series by Renault
season finale, hosted at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain, Saturday
28 – Sunday 29 October, hoping to end the season on a high and cement his
standing as one of the series leading rookies after a closely fought year of
racing at some of Europe’s premier circuits.
Currently sixth
overall in the Driver Standings from a 30-strong field of international talent,
McIntosh (21), who races for the Belgian-based Team KTR, heads to Spain for
Round 9’s double-header event returning to the 4.73km circuit, home of the
Spanish Grand Prix, where his World Series campaign kicked off back in March
with his first pre-season test outing.
Learning the
characteristics of the 425bhp, 3.5-litre Renault-powered World Series car he
would race for the season, McIntosh placed himself firmly in the top-ten on
that occasion and he returns to the Barcelona circuit armed with a full-season
of racing in the #6 Team KTR entry, the highlight of the year to-date a second
place podium finish at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium back
in July.
Sean, the
highest-ranked Formula Renault 2.0-litre graduate in this year’s World Series
by Renault, endured a mixed bag last time out in Round 8 at Le Mans, France. Adding to his points tally in Race 1 with a
ninth place effort, his hopes of a double-score were dashed the following day
when a fuel pump fault meant he failed to take the start in Race 2.
Previewing his
final World Series by Renault outing Sean commented:
“Barcelona holds certain memories as it was
the first place we tested the World Series car this year back in pre-season
testing. It’s definitely one of the more
physical tracks we visit and it’s quite testing in terms of finding a working
set-up. Tires degrade really quickly
around the circuit so the key is to find the sweet spot quickly and make the
most of them.
“I’m looking
forward to tackling the track once again as it’s pretty satisfying when you get
it right. Hopefully we can end the
season with a pair of strong finishes and secure a top-six finish in the Driver
Standings, a good result for my rookie season!”
Race 1 (19 Laps)
from the Circuit de Catalunya, Spain is set to get underway on Saturday, 28th
October, at 3:25pm Central European Time (9:25am EST) with Race 2 (26 Laps)
held on Sunday, 29th October, at 1pm CET (7am EST).
