Round 8 / Race 2 – World
Series by Renault, Le Mans, France
Sean McIntosh, #6 Team KTR,
Race 2 – Qualified: 15th / Finished: DNS (0 Points)
Vancouver, Canada (October 2, 2006) –
Canada’s Sean McIntosh endured a frustrating day yesterday at Le Mans, France,
Sunday 1st October, as he failed to make the start of Race 2 in Round 8 of the
World Series by Renault thanks to a fuel pump failure on the #6 KTR entry on
the warm-up lap. Despite failing to make
the race, the Vancouver-native’s points scoring consistency, including two more
markers for his ninth place finish in Race 1 on Saturday, means he retains
sixth place in the Driver Standings heading into the final two World Series
races in Barcelona at the end of October.
Race 2, Qualifying (Pole – Tristan Gommendy,
1m41.950s)
A challenging qualifying
outing, made worse by the rain, saw McIntosh struggle for grip throughout the
timed session. Having posted a top-ten
grid slot the day before, this time round McIntosh’s best lap on the Bugatti
layout at Le Mans, a 1m45.255s, placed him a disappointing eighth fastest in
Group B and 15th on the grid for the afternoon’s race.
Race 2, 27 Laps (Winner – Pastor Maldonado,
Draco Multiracing USA)
McIntosh failed to make the
start of the 27 lap race as a fuel pump failure on his first lap out of the
pits put paid to his hopes of adding to his points tally from the previous
day’s race. Forced to walk back to the
pits with his car stranded out on track, the 21-year-old’s French weekend
concluded earlier than expected.
Sean McIntosh - #6 Team KTR:
“Well it’s really
disappointing to not even get to start the race. What was more frustrating was the fact that
several of the guys who started near the back of the grid ended up with decent
finishes thanks to events on-track. It’s
been a pretty forgettable weekend, we never really had the pace to
challenge. At least I’m still holding
sixth in the championship and we just have to make sure we have a good weekend
to wrap the season in Barcelona.”
The World Series by Renault
heads to Barcelona, Spain for the season finale, Round
9, 28th – 29th October.
