Vancouver, Canada (September 26, 2006) – Keen to put the disappointment of a frustrating World Series by Renault (WSR) outing at Donington Park, England well behind him, Canada’s Sean McIntosh hopes to rebound on French soil when the series heads to the Bugatti Circuit at Le Mans this weekend, Saturday 30^th September – Sunday 1^st October, for Round 8, the penultimate meeting of the 2006 World Series by Renault.

The 21-year-old rookie from British Columbia heads to the 4.180km Le Mans track having seen his hopes of a maiden World Series victory dashed in England earlier this month following a costly fuel miscalculation in qualifying.  A winner at Donington in the 2005 Formula Renault UK Championship, McIntosh was fastest in WSR practice heading into the seventh round three weeks ago.

Carrying his form into Race 1 qualifying, McIntosh set the third fastest lap time but was forced to start seventh having caused a red flag following an off at Redgate.  He responded to finish the race in fifth, adding six more points to bolster his seventh place holding in the Driver Standings.  Race 2 qualifying would ultimately dash Sean’s hopes of victory at his favored British circuit.  Having set the fourth fastest time he was again penalized, this time sent to the back of the grid for a fuel miscalculation.  While he charged through from the back of the 30-car field, a 13^th place finish was all the reward for his efforts in what was a case of ‘what might have been’ for the Canadian talent.

The familiarity of Donington Park is replaced by the relative newness to McIntosh of the Bugatti Circuit at Le Mans.  The Team KTR racer first sampled the 12-turn layout back in April at a two-day pre-season test.  While getting to grips with the Formula Renault 3.5-litre World Series car following a winter of racing, and winning, in the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport for A1 Team Canada, Sean set the seventh fastest time in official testing.

Previewing his return to the French track McIntosh stated:

“As Renault’s ‘home’ event, and with Le Mans being such an historic venue, this should be a pretty exciting race weekend.  Our pre-season form at Le Mans was encouraging as was the pace we showed at Donington.  I had plenty of practice overtaking there but this weekend I want to start back up at the front, where we belong, and get a couple of decent results!”

Race 1 (20 Laps) from Le Mans, France is set to get underway on Saturday, 30^th September, at 4pm CET with Race 2 (27 Laps) held on Sunday, 1^st October, at 1pm CET.
