Round 7 – World Series by Renault, Donington Park, England

Sean McIntosh, #6 Team KTR, Race 1 – Qualified: 3^rd (Pen – 7^th) / Finished: 5^th (6 Points)

Canada’s Sean McIntosh earned another top-five finish today as the first of the weekend’s two World Series by Renault races played out on the 2.5-mile Grand Prix Circuit at Donington Park, England.  The 21-year-old rookie from Vancouver collected six more points for fifth place further aiding his bid to crack the top-five in the WSR Driver Standings with two rounds remaining, the gap to sixth now just four points (Salignon 48 – McIntosh 44).

Race 1, Qualifying (Pole – Adrian Zaugg, 1m18.283s)

Having set the fastest time in yesterday’s practice session, McIntosh was again a front-runner in qualifying, posting a 1m18.462s lap time to sit third on the grid before it was taken away from him for spinning on the next lap at Redgate causing a red flag, the subsequent penalty dropping him to seventh for this afternoon’s race.

Race 1, 21 Laps (Winner – Alx Danielsson, Comtec Racing)

Starting from his relegated position, McIntosh slipped back to eighth at the start as Alvaro Parente passed for position but the Canadian got the better of the Portuguese driver into the chicane to claim seventh back by the end of the first lap.  With the car taking several laps to come to McIntosh, when it finally clicked he found himself back in the fight for a top-five finish.  Taking sixth courtesy of a spin by Pastor Maldonado, Sean then hunted down RC Motorsport’s Borja Garcia and passed him into Redgate for fifth.  Fourth placed Andy Soucek saw his eight car-length advantage eradicated in a single lap by McIntosh but despite several attempts to pass into Redgate, McIntosh had to settle for fifth at the checkered.

“Well we certainly had the pace to run with the leaders today but it’s just unfortunate that the penalty for the red flag in qualifying dropped me down the order from what would have been a second row grid slot.  I’m disappointed as I wanted to be fighting at the front and for sure the car was better than a fifth place finish but that said it’s more points in the bag and I’ve closed the gap to Eric Salignon in sixth in the standings.  Hopefully we can get back up there in qualifying tomorrow and go for the podium.”

Race 2 (29 Laps), including a mandatory pit-stop, starts tomorrow at 1pm GMT.
