Sean McIntosh, #6 Team KTR, Race 1 – Qualified: 9^th / Finished: 7^th (4 Points)

Sean McIntosh enjoyed another solid points scoring run to seventh place as the first of this weekend’s World Series by Renault races kicked off this afternoon at the Nurburgring in Germany.  McIntosh’s consistency, through changing track conditions from yesterday’s practice to today’s running, kept the Canadian firmly anchored in the top-ten throughout as he went on to score four more points having arrived sitting tenth in the Driver Standings.

Race 1, Qualifying (Pole – Michael Aleshin, 1m45.573s)

Picking up where he left off in pre-season testing at the 5.148km circuit, McIntosh was again an early front-runner in practice and qualifying.  Heavy rains washed the track prior to qualifying presenting all 28 drivers with a ‘green’ circuit with next to no grip on offer.  Running in Group B Sean’s best lap time, a 1m46.112s, was the fifth fastest of the session and secured the KTR racer ninth on the grid, his fifth straight top-ten start.

Race 1, 16 Laps (Winner – Alvaro Parente, Victory Engineering)

Following a delayed start, thanks to a two-car clash on the formation lap, this afternoon’s race was cut short by one lap.  At the start Sean picked off a couple of cars as the pack threaded through the first turn and he found himself tucked in behind Pastor Maldonado, the pair having finished 1-2 at Spa last weekend.  Just as the balance of McIntosh’s car kicked in on lap four a safety car period bunched the field back up and when racing resumed a ten lap sprint to the finish followed.  McIntosh pushed Maldonado all the way to the checkered, hoping to crack his rival for a top-six finish, but his advances were spurned and he settled for a seventh place finish and four more championship points.

“I really had a go at Pastor but in the end I just couldn’t get by him for sixth!  I wanted to be higher but I think I got everything from the car that I could.  We were hampered by not being able to run new tires in practice yesterday thanks to the rain and it really changed the track conditions which in turn affected the balance of the car.  We’re not far off the pace but we need to look at making a couple of changes now to try and get up there for tomorrow.”

Race 2 (23 Laps), including a mandatory pit-stop, starts tomorrow at 1pm CET.
