Round
5 – World Series by Renault, Spa-Francorchamps,
Belgium
Sean McIntosh, #6 Team KTR, Race
2 – Qualified: 9th / Finished: DNF
Having scored his first World Series by
Renault podium in yesterday’s race at Spa-Francorchamps, KTR’s Sean McIntosh barely made it through a quarter of a
lap round the sweeping 4.3-mile Belgian circuit today as he was collected from
behind and forced to retire at Les Combes.
McIntosh currently sits tenth in the WSR Driver Standings with 26
points.
Race
2, Qualifying (Pole – Pastor Maldonado, 2m03.962s)
Yesterday’s qualifying sesssion saw
McIntosh cement his top-ten pace and once again he was involved in the battle
for pole in Group B. Duelling with Race
1’s pole-sitter, and subsequent winner Pastor Maldonado, McIntosh traded lap
times with the Venezuelan before his rival broke the sub-2m04s barrier. Sean ended up setting the fifth fastest time
in the 15-car group, his best, a 2m04.593s, placing him ninth on the grid for
this afternoon’s 20-lap race.
Race 2, 15 Laps (Winner – Borja Garcia, RC
Motorsport)
The World Series by Renault field lined up for their second
start at Spa-Francorchamps under clear skies this afternoon. As the lights flicked from red to green the
pack charged to Eau Rouge with Sean holding station in ninth through the
infamous turn. On the approach to the
first chicane, Les Combes, Epsilon Euskadi’s Davide Valsechhi locked up braking
late and smashed into the back of Comtec’s Jaap Van Lagen, who in turn
collected Sean’s innocent KTR entry, the Canadian’s race ending prematurely on
the opening lap.
Sean McIntosh - #6 Team KTR:
“Today was fairly disappointing considering yesterday’s
result. I was pretty much taken out the
first time I hit the brakes heading into the chicane. It’s frustrating when someone else takes you
out of the race and sadly it’s not the first time this season this has happened
either! Still, looking at the positives,
yesterday’s podium was a real boost for the team and we performed well despite
the tricky conditions to move into tenth in the points. We head to Nurburgring for next weekend’s
race knowing we were fast there in pre-season testing.”
The World Series by Renault heads to Germany’s
Nurburgring for Round 6, 5th-6th August.
Points: 1st Garcia (65), 2nd Maldonado
(63), 3rd Soucek (61), 4th Parente (56), 5th
Salignon (41), *10th McINTOSH
(26)
